Lightning, Swords, and Arrows: Weapons of Judgment Coming on Judgment Day

Introduction

God prefigures Judgment Day in many ways, in many verses, throughout the entire Bible from beginning to end. Some are explicit, and some are more veiled, as we find in the Historical Parable of Judges Chapters 4&5. There, God uses a man named “Barak”, which, in the original Hebrew tongue, means both “Lightning” and “Glittering Sword“, to destroy the enemies of Israel (the Canaanites) in the Valley of Megiddo. Barak is used to “typify”, or “prefigure”, the Lord Jesus Christ when Jesus will come with all of His Saints to destroy the world and all of creation on Judgment Day.

Lightning, Swords, and Arrows Are Terms Used Together to Point to Judgment Day

When we search the Bible we can see that there is a clear connection with Jesus, Being God’s Word, and His association with bringing judgment in the form of “Lightning” (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300), a “Sword” (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719), and “Arrows” (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671), such as we see in Zechariah 9:14, “And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671shall go forth as the lightning (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300): and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.” Also please note the particular and unmistakable harmony of these three additional verses that also tie “lightning” with “arrows“, or weapons of warfare like the “sword” (or sometimes “spear“(חֲנִית (ḥănîṯ))H2595), to bring destruction, hence judgment, and in particular, JUDGMENT DAY! (and please also note that the phrase mentioned above in Zechariah 9:14, “the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet“, unequivocally also points to Judgment Day as we read in 1 Corinthians 15:52, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.“)

Lightning or Glittering Sword (בָּרָק bārāq)H1300

Significantly, back in Deuteronomy 32:41, the same word Hebrew word “barak” is alternatively translated as “glittering sword”, “If I whet my glittering sword (בָּרָק bārāq)H1300, and mine hand take hold on judgmentI will render vengeance נָקָם (nāqām)H5359 to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.”  We this also in Job 20:24&5, where God has just outlined what will happen to the wicked and the hypocrites of the world on Judgment Day, “He shall flee from the iron weapon, [and] the bow of steel shall strike him through. It is drawn, and cometh out of the body; yea, the glittering sword (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300cometh out of his gall: terrors [are] upon him.”   (Note also that the “sword” (“the iron weapon“) is accompanied again by the arrow because the “bow of steel” is used to send its to “strike him through“)

Note also the similarity with the above given the military armor context of Isaiah 59:17, “For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance נָקָם (nāqām)H5359 [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. According to [their] deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.

This is all describing Jesus on Judgment Day!

God uses “Lightning/Lightnings” to Describe Jesus, and Jesus’ Second, and FINAL, Coming in the New Testament

Remember how, in Matthew 24:27, we read where Jesus Christ tells us directly that His coming on Judgment Day will appear as lightning, “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” Note the harmony with Psalm 77:18, “The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings (בָּרָק (bārāq))H1300 lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook.”  Clearly this points to Jesus being both the Light of the world and the Judge of the world.

Job 38:35 “Canst thou send lightnings (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300), that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we [are]?

We see this same theme again in Psalm 97:2-5, “Clouds and darkness [are] round about him: righteousness and judgment [are] the habitation of his throne. A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. His lightnings (בָּרָק (bārāq))H1300 enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.”

Again, note the harmony with what is provided in 2 Samuel 22:8, “Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he (God) was wroth.” and in 2 Samuel 22:14, “The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

In Matthew 28:3, describing “the angel of the Lord descended from heaven”, we read that, “His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:Luke 17:24, “For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one [part] under heaven, shineth unto the other [part] under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.”

Revelation 4:5, “And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and [there were] seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

Revelation 8:5, “And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast [it] into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.”

Revelation 11:19, “And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.”

Revelation 16:18, “And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, [and] so great.”

The “Sword” is the “Word of God” Coming Out of the Mouth of Jesus!

Ephesians 6:17, “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” and  Revelation 19:21, “And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which [sword] proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.“ Also, Revelation 2:16, “Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Hosea 6:5, “Therefore have I hewed [them] by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments [are as] the light [that] goeth forth.

The Word of God Is Also a Sharp “Twoedged” Sword!

Finally, what do we know about the Word of God in relationship to a “Sword”. Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” And please note how “the Word” is figuratively protruding out of the Mouth of Jesus in Revelation 1:16, “And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance [was] as the sun shineth in his strength.” Please note how perfectly this relates directly back to Isaiah 49:2, “And he hath made my mouth like a sharp (חַד (ḥaḏ))H2299 sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719); in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;” This Messianic verse reinforces the association of Jesus’ mouth, hence His Words, with a sword (and a “twoedged” one, because in this last verse the word translated as “sword” is written twice in the original Hebrew).

Psalm 149:6, “[Let] the high [praises] of God [be] in their mouth, and a twoedged (פִּיפִיּוֹת (pîp̄îyôṯ))H6374 sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719) in their hand; To execute vengeance upon the heathen, [and] punishments upon the people; To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

But why is the “Word of God” specifically identified with a “twoedged” sword?  It is because the Word of God brings both life and death, both salvation or condemnation, “comfort” and “vengeance” (Please see: The Book of Nahum) .  We read in 2 Corinthians 2:14-17, “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who [is] sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

John 12:48, “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

Note the parallel with Isaiah 11:4, “But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Sword” (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719

A sword is for offense, not defense.

The first time we are introduced to the word “sword”, חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719 in the Bible is in Genesis 3:24, “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The Hebrew word, חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719, is a total of 413 times in the Bible, of which the following verses are but a sample, but please note how, in one way or another that they all have to do with “judgment”:

Joshua 5:13&14, “¶And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, [Art] thou for us, or for our adversaries? ¶And he said, Nay; but [as] captain (prince) of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?”

Judges 4:15&16, “And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all [his] chariots, and all [his] host, with the edge of the sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off [his] chariot, and fled away on his feet. But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719[and] there was not a man left.”

Job 19:29, “Be ye afraid of the sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719: for wrath [bringeth] the punishments of the sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719), that ye may know [there is] a judgment.

Isaiah 34:5&6 “For my sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curseto judgmentThe sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

Ezekiel 21:9&10, “Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD; Say, A sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719, a sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 is sharpened, and also furbished: It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter; it is furbished that it may glitter (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300): should we then make mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son, as every tree.” This is essentially repeated in Ezekiel 21:28 “And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719, the sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 [is] drawn: for the slaughter [it is] furbished, to consume because of the glittering (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300):”  It should also be noted that essentially all of Ezekiel, Chapter 21, focuses on the utility of the “sword” to bring Judgment on the ungodly. So much so, that some commentators refer to this chapter as the “Parable of the Sword of the LORD“.

NOTE to the Reader: The combination of “Sword” (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 doubled with the word translated as “Glitter” or “Glittering” (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300) in Ezekiel chapter 21 is particularly significant when one considers the role of the man, “Baraq” in Judges, Chapters 4&5. In that account, Baraq, as a “Type” of the “Sword of the LORD”, prefigured the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ on the clouds of Glory on Judgment Day to render Judgment on the enemies of God.

Nahum 3:3, “The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 and the glittering (בָּרָק bārāq))H1300 spear: and [there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and [there is] none end of [their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

In John 12:48, Jesus said, “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” And let us remember once again that this “Word” is also a “Sword” as Ephesians 6:17 tells us, “…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God!

Note the parallels with Isaiah 11:4, “But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Arrows (the Children of God) Will Accompany the Sword

It should be noted that in Psalm 127:4&5, we read, “As arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671) [are] in the hand of a mighty man; so [are] children (בֵּן (bēn))H1121 of the youth. Happy [is] the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.” Historically, the world has consistently viewed these verses as simply saying (when viewed only in the literal sense) that any man who has a lot of children will be a happy man…particularly so in the ancient agrarian days when the larger the family, then the more secure a man would likely be.

However, from a spiritual perspective, we can see something else that is much more important. On the spiritual level, God is equating those “arrows” with His “children”, and saying to us that they will be the means by which the Word will go mightily forth to “speak” to the enemies in the gate (the gate of the Kingdom of God). Those enemies are the unsaved of the world under the power of the devil. God’s children, all the believers who are saved by Jesus’ Atoning Sacrifice, will “not be ashamed” in the Day of Judgment. For confirmation that this is the correct understanding, we read in Lamentations 3:12&13, “He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671 . He hath caused the arrows (בֵּן (bēn))H1121 of his quiver to enter into my reins.” The Hebrew word בֵּן (bēn)H1121 is most often translated as “children” exactly as is found above in Psalm 127:4&5.

Note that this verse is also describing God’s awakening of the sinner (in the historical narrative, Jeremiah) to the realization of his utter sinfulness and deserved wrath of God. We can see this more clearly reading further on in Lamentations 3:21-41 acknowledging the hope of the relief in God’s Mercy. Moreover, there is also the Messianic prophecy, in which Jesus had to take the brunt of God’s wrath in Judgment on behalf of His elect (His children), as well as describing how God will bring His wrath upon all of the unsaved of the world on Judgment Day.

As noted earlier the believers, the children of God, His saints, who will be coming with Jesus on Judgment Day to assist in the meting out of Judgment to God’s enemies, they will be doing so only because they will have the Word of God, Jesus, in them. The following verses help to make this clear, once the above understanding is kept in mind.

The Arrows (God’s Children) in Action (Please see also:The Believers (The “Saints”) Will Be With Jesus in Bringing Judgment on Judgment Day!)

Habakkuk 3:11, “The sun [and] moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ) H2671) they went, [and] at the shining of thy glittering. (בָּרָק (bārāq))H1300 spear (חֲנִית (ḥănîṯ))H2595.

Please note in the above the link between “arrows” and “lightning” (translated above as “glittering”). There is another word that seems to link both together as well, which is the original Hebrew word, חָזִיז (ḥāzîz)H2385, that can be translated as “lightning of thunder” (or “thunderbolt” which is like an arrow) as we find in Job 28:26, “When he (God) made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning H2385of the thunder:

Looking again at Isaiah 49:1-3, “¶ Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671; in his quiver hath he hid me; And said unto me, Thou [art] my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.” Note that the polished shaft in the quiver is an “arrow”. In the first instance, this verses are Messianically pointing to the Lord Jesus Christ, but, secondarily, it also applies spiritually to all who are in Christ.

And note the consistency with this Song (Psalm) of David as found in 2 Samuel 22:15, “And he sent out arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ) H2671), and scattered them; lightning (בָּרָק (bārāq))H1300), and discomfited them.” compared with what is written in Psalm 18:14, “Yea, he sent out his arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings (בָּרָק (bārāq))H1300), and discomfited them.” (Please see below in 2 Samuel 22:15.)

2 Samuel 22:15, “And he sent out arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671) and scattered them; lightning (בָּרָק (bārāq))H1300, and discomfited them.

Jacob/Israel on his deathbed told his son Joseph the following in Genesis 48:22, “Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.” Obviously arrows had accompanied the sword in bringing the judgment/slaughter upon Jacob’s enemies.

Numbers 24:8, “God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce [them] through with his arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ))H2671.” The context was that this was a blessing on the Nation of Israel by Balaam (instead of the curse request of him by Balak), which pointed to Jesus and His eternal Israel coming together on Judgment Day.

Deuteronomy 32:23, “I (God) will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671 upon them.

Psalm 7:13, “He (God) hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ))H2671 against the persecutors.

Deuteronomy 32:41-43, “If I (God) whet my glittering sword (בָּרָק bārāq)H1300, and mine hand take hold on judgmentI will render vengeance (נָקָם (nāqām))H5359 to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me. I will make mine arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671 drunk with blood, and my sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ))H2719 shall devour flesh; [and that] with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy. Rejoice, O ye nations, [with] his people: for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful unto his land, [and] to his people.” [NOTE: For more on (בָּרָק bārāq)H1300, please see this study “Barak the Son of Abinoam”]

Interestingly, Psalm 78:48, which refers back to God’s plagues upon the Egyptians in Exodus, mentions “hot thunderbolts“: “He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts (רֶשֶׁף (rešep̄))H7565.” The word that is translated as “hot thunderbolts” is רֶשֶׁף (rešep̄)H7565, which is translated in the King James Bible in the following manner: coals (2x), burning coals (1x), burning heat (1x), spark (1x), arrow (1x), hot thunderbolt (1x). So it would seem that lightning and arrows are intertwined in yet even another, albeit more subtle, manner with respect to the execution of God’s Judgment.

Psalm 21:12, “Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, [when] thou shalt make ready [thine arrows] upon thy strings against the face of them.” Please note that the preceding verses make clear that the context is Judgment Day: Psalm 21:9-11, “Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, [which] they are not able [to perform].”

Psalm 45:5, “Thine arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671) [are] sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; [whereby] the people fall under thee.

Psalm 64:7-10, “But God shall shoot at them [with] an arrow (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671); suddenly shall they be wounded. So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Psalm 77:17, “The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows (חָצָץ (ḥāṣāṣ)H2687 also went abroad.” (Note that in this case, the Hebrew word that is translated into English can also be translated as “gravel” or “stones”…and in the context of this particular verse, evidently “hailstones”, which are also used in the Bible in the course of God bringing His Judgment, as we find in Revelation 16:21).

Psalm 120:3&4, “What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue? Sharp arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣH2671of the mighty, with coals of juniper.” Judgment is coming to those who love and make a lie, and that Judgment is equated to God’s Word (John 12:48).

Note that the “coals of juniper” also equates to God’s Word in the form of Judgment. The word that is translated into English by the King James translators as “coals“is in the original Hebrew, גַּחֶלֶת (gaḥeleṯ)H1513. We should note that we find in Proverbs 25:21&22, “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire (גַּחֶלֶת (gaḥeleṯ))H1513 upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.” This verse is repeated by the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:20, “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.” Essentially, we can determine that by sharing the Gospel of Salvation through Jesus Christ, we are providing the spiritual food of the Word to those who are by nature enemies of the Christ (and therefore Christians) in the hope that they may yet be saved through the hearing of the Word. However, if they reject the Word, then they will come under the Judgment of the Word come Judgment Day. Jeremiah 23:29, “[Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?

Psalm 144:6, “Cast forth lightning (בָּרָק (bārāq)H1300,) and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ) H2671), and destroy them.“

The verse just preceding the one above, Psalm 144:5, makes clear to us that God is unequivocally describing Judgment Day, “Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.” Judgment Day is the Day when the elements will melt with fervent heat and the earth will dissolve, and the heavens will be rolled back as a scroll, as we read in 2 Peter 3:102 Peter 3:12Isaiah 64:1&2, Amos 9:13Nahum 1:5Isaiah 34:4Revelation 6:14, and Matthew 24:35. Therefore all those people in the world who are counted by God as His enemies will be destroyed, just like the Canaanites in the Valley of Megiddo, but, even worse, they will all be sent to eternal Hell.

Psalm 45 is another synopsis of Jesus coming on the clouds of Glory as KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS (1 Timothy 6:15Revelation 17:14Revelation 19:16 coming conquering and to conquer (Revelation 6:2) with a “sword” and “arrows” on Judgment Day (interwoven within the first seven verses) and then Jesus coming to meet His Bride (Revelation 21:2), the Queen, the Eternal Church, to take Her to Heaven with Him (the last ten verses). This Psalm, to a large degree, mirrors what we find also in Solomon’s Song.

Psalm 45:1-7 “¶ [[To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves.]] My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue [is] the pen of a ready writer. Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever. Gird thy sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719) upon thy thigh, O [most] mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness [and]righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. Thine arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671 [are] sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; [whereby] the people fall under thee. Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom [is] a right sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Job 6:4, “For the arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671 of the Almighty [are] within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.” It should be noted that this is a Messianic verse that speaks to the Atoning Suffering Sacrifice brought upon Jesus on behalf of His elect saints.

Salvation is also in View for the Saints (Typified by National Israel)

Earlier we saw the Judgment of God on Judgment Day foretold in  Zechariah 9:14, but then there is the promise of simultaneous salvation of His people, the Saints…Zechariah 9:15-17, “The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, [and] make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, [and] as the corners of the altar. And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they [shall be as] the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land. For how great [is] his goodness, and how great [is] his beauty! corn shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

Conclusion

When we consider that all of the above verses are talking about Judgment Day, we must conclude that not only does “Barak” clearly and irrefutably represent Jesus Christ, but Barak also represents Jesus Christ as Both The Judge, and The Means of Judgment coming on Judgment Day!  And, Judgment Day is coming soon!

Some other verses come to mind that support this last statement.  First in Psalm 7:11-13 we read, “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry [with the wicked] every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword (חֶרֶב (ḥereḇ)H2719he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows (חֵץ (ḥēṣ)) H2671 against the persecutors.

It is very difficult to begin to understand the might of God’s wrath against the wicked, against God’s enemies, on Judgment Day.  But that Sword of Truth, Is the Word, Who Is Jesus, and let us remember again what Jesus told us… that His Word is what will bring judgment on Judgment Day as we read in John 12:48, “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
