Hebrews Chapter 1

Introduction: Jesus Is Greater Than the Prophets!

Hebrews 1:1 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

The word translated as “sundry times” is πολυμερῶς (polymerōs)G4181 is only used once in the Bible, but means “by many portions”, “by many times”, and “in many ways.”

The word  translated as “divers manners” (diverse) πολυτρόπως (polytropōs) G4187 is only used once in the whole Bible but means “many manners”.  We also see another word translated as “divers” (diverse) in Hebrews 2:4, “God also bearing [them] witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?” which is ποικίλος (poikilos)G4164 meaning “diverse”, “various”, or “manifold.”

This is consistent with Numbers 12:6, “And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, [I] the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, [and] will speak unto him in a dream.

God’s Used Manifold Means To Convey Truth in the Old Testament

Before the incarnation of God’s Son in the flesh somewhere around 6 BC, Jesus Christ, Who Is also God’s Word made flesh; God spoke to man by various means at various times. It could have been in a dream, in a vision, by an angel (messenger), and the prophets would be used to convey the messages to His people.

What did the messages contain? God spoke to them about mercy and redemption to be completed in the Messiah (the Christ, Who Is Jesus). Each revelation set forth a portion of the complete Truth about Jesus (albeit often in a veiled manner).

  1. The Messiah (Jesus) was pointed to in prophecy: Genesis 3:15, Genesis 49:10, Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6, the entire chapter of Isaiah 53:1, etc. It should be noted that God told us the time when Jesus would die, 483 years from the time of of the decree to rebuild the temple (Daniel 9:24) in about 450 BC (Jesus died in 33 AD) and the place (Micah 5:2) of the Messiah’s (Jesus’) Birth in Bethlehem. And the Jews knew that this was was the case, because as we read in Matthew 2:3-5, the Jewish priests quoted from Micah 5:2. Remember that we are also explicitly told this in Romans 1:2&3, “(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
  2. The Messiah (Jesus) was pointed to in sacrifice: Exodus 12:1-14, Leviticus 16:15-22
  3. The Messiah (Jesus) was pointed to in “types“: John 3:14 (e.g., the Brazen Serpent)

The last of these diverse means, mentioned above (#3), requires some additional study. God uses temporal/earthly/carnal “allegory,” “figures,” “shadows, “patterns,” “similitudes,“examples” and “ensamples” (“typos” in Greek meaning “examples” or “types“) to convey eternal/heavenly/ spiritual truth (albeit many times in a veiled, mysterious, or secretive manner) is, nonetheless, plainly stated in the Bible as we find in:

Galatians 4:22-31, concerning the typology of the two sons of Abraham, Ishmael (born of the bondwoman, Hagar (Agar in Greek), typifying the result of fleshly works under the law) and Isaac (born of the freewoman, Sarah, typifying the result of Heavenly promise under grace).  God is telling us “plainly” that this Old Testament historical account is in fact an “Historical Parable“.

For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he [who was] of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman [was] by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.  But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. ¶Now we, breth ren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him [that was born] after the Spirit, even so [it is] now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.”

Romans 5:14, “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Hebrews 8:5, “Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, [that] thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

Hebrews 9:8&9, “The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:  Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

Hebrews 9:24, “For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Hebrews 10:1, “For the law having a shadow of good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

Colossians 2:16-17, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

Hebrews 9:23, “It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

In 1 Timothy 1:16 we see how Paul was used of God as a “pattern” for a sinner saved by grace, “Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.”

Hosea 12:10, “I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.”

1 Corinthians 10:6, “¶Now these things were our examples ( which in the original Greek is τύπος (typos)G5179, meaning ““examples” or “types“), to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

1 Corinthians 10:11, “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples (τύπος (typos))G5179: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.”

Romans 15:4, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learningthat we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Finally, we must all be fully cognizant of the fact that ALL of Holy Scripture is Holy Spirit breathed as we read in 2 Peter 1:21, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.

Proverbs and Parables

Before we move on, it is worthwhile to remember that both the Old Testament prophets and Jesus spoke in Proverbs/parables.

The Book of “Proverbs”, as published by king Solomon, is from the in the original Hebrew is מָשָׁל (māšāl)H4912 which has been translated variously as proverb (19x), parable (18x), byword (1x), like (1x).

God specifically told Isaiah, in Isaiah 14:4,  that His pronouncement against the earthly king of Babylon (a real historical figure, king Nebuchadnezzar) was a “proverb“ which was in effect a “parable.”

In the New Testament, we know that Jesus only taught in “parables/proverbs” as we read Matthew 13:34, “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; G3850 and without a parable G3850 spake he not unto them:” The word translated from the original Greek as “Parables” is παραβολή (parabolē)G3850 which is found in the King James Version of the Bible 50 times variously as:  parable (46x), figure (2x), comparison (1x), proverb (1x).

Jesus explained why He spoke in parables, in Mark 4:11+12 we read, “And he (Jesus Christ speaking to His disciples) said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all [these] things are done in parablesG3850:  That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and [their] sins should be forgiven them.”

In John 10:6, another word for parable /proverb is used, “This parable  spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.” Similarly, in John 16:29, “His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.” The word translated as proverb is from the original Greek word παροιμία (paroimia)G3942 (proverb (4x), parable (1x)).

Jesus Also Worked Miracles and Gave Good Gifts to Men

Mark 16:19&20, “¶So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Act 2:22, “¶Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

1 Corinthians 12:4, “¶Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Ephesians 1:5, “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Ephesians 1:9, “Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

Hebrews 1:2, “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

These Last Days?

This verse immediately raises the question of what is the meaning of “these last days“? But with careful review of where and how the phrase “last days” or “latter days” is used, it can become clear that it is referring to the whole New Testament era right up until Judgment Day. For more on this topic, please see: What are the Last (or Latter) Days?

Jesus Is the Son of God

In Psalm 2:7, we read, “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Also in Acts 13:33, we are told, “God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.“, which refers directly back to Psalm 2:7, “I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou [art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Remember in the exposition of the Mount of Transfiguration where we read in Matthew 17:5, “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.” That exposition also referred back to Jesus’s water baptism that we read about in Matthew 3:16 &17, “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:  And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Ephesians 1:10-15, “That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; [even] in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. ¶In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possessionunto the praise of his glory.

John 1:14-18, “¶And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. ¶John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.¶And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

John 14:10-13 that has as the last verse, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Jesus Is The Heir of All Things

Also, All that the Father has belongs to Jesus, His Son. The Kingdom of nature, providence, and grace, but most importantly the eternal body of believers. It is not only decreed to Him but He bought it on the cross.

Romans 14:9, “For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Psalm 2:8, “Ask of me, and I shall give [thee] the heathen [for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth [for] thy possession.

Colossians 1:16-18, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence.

And regarding the inheritance we should remember how the Apostle Paul, speaking to Agrippa in Acts 26:18, recounted that the Lord Jesus Christ told him that Paul’s mission would be to the Gentiles, “To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Jesus Is The Word of God and The Creator of the Universe

John 1:1-4, “¶In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

Psalm 33:6, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”

Ephesians 3:9, “And to make all [men] see what [is] the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:”

Colossians 1:16, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”

Hebrews 1:3, “Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

This verse is packed with a lot of key infomation about Jesus. It is also very reminiscent of what we find in Ephesians chapter 1.

Who Jesus Is (#1): The Brightness of His Glory

John 1:14, “¶And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Philippians 2:11, “And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Revelation 4:11, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Who Jesus Is (#2): The Express Image of His Person

Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

John 1:1, “¶In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

John 14:9,””¶Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou [then], Shew us the Father?

John 10:30, “I and [my] Father are one.

What Jesus DID: Purged Our Sins

Hebrews 7:27&28, “Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, [maketh] the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Where Jesus Is NOW: Sitting at God the Father’s Right Hand

Psalm 110:1, “¶[[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.” The fact that Jesus is sitting down means that the Work is Finished!

Mark 16:19&20, “¶So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with [them], and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

This is further made clear in Hebrews 10:12-14, “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Revelation 4:2-4, “¶And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and [there was] a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne [were] four and twenty seats:and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

The fact that Jesus is now “sitting” on His throne is evidence that the Redemptive Work of God is finished! The Old Testament priests never sat down in the tabernacle, for their work was never done nor effectual. Jesus’ Work is Complete and Accepted and both He and the world awaits it full revelation to the universe. (Note: for more on the significance of the “rainbow about the throne”, please see this post on “The Biblical Meaning of the Rainbow.”)

II. Jesus Is More Excellent than the Angels

Hebrews 1:4, Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.”

This verses is clearly stating that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is above all angels and His name is above all other names, and that He has an inheritance, which they do not. It is resounding what we will find in all of the Book of Hebrews, the excellence, the superiority and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ over all creatures, all covenants, all priests and all sacrifices.

This is entirely consistent with what we read in Philippians 2:9&10, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

It also dispels the worship and adoration of angels or men.

Revelation 22:8&9, “¶And I John saw these things, and heard [them]. And whenI had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.¶Then saith he unto me, See [thou do it] not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

Acts 10:25, “And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped [him]. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

Hebrews 1:5, “¶For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, Iwill be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is not by creation as the angels, nor by adoption as we are, but He Is God. Jesus’s Sonship is the foundation of His Office. He Was The Son before He Was The Prophet, Priest, and King.

Matthew 3:16, “¶And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

John 17:1-4, “¶These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”

Hebrews 1:6, “¶And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Romans 8:29, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

In many parts of the Bible we find the angels (messengers, which can include believers depending on the context) of God attending to, and glorifying, the eternal incarnate Lord God.

Luke 2:13, “¶And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

Mark 1:13, “And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Hebrews 1:7, “And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels (ἄγγελος (angelos))G32 spirits, and his ministers (λειτουργός (leitourgos))G3011 a flame of fire.”

This is a direct reference back to Psalm 104:4, where the Psalmist is praising God “Who maketh his angels (מַלְאָךְ (mal’āḵ))H4397 spirits; his ministers (שָׁרַת (šāraṯ))H8334 a flaming fire:

The angels are created spirits. They are non-material, they do not die, and they are ministers of God. They do God’s bidding. They attend His Presence, and are always ready to do as God commands. They may be referred to as flames of fire because they have been empowered to assist the believers with burning love and zeal, or the fact that they are the means by which God executes His wrath. The “chariot of fire” that carried Elijah to Heaven in  2 Kings 2:11 could have in fact been angels.

But let us step back a moment, are not the believers also messengers (“angels”) and ministers of God in bringing the Word of God to the world? And how does God describe His Word? In Jeremiah 23:29, we read, “[Is] not my word like as a fire? saith the LORDand like a hammer [that] breaketh the rock in pieces?

So then, the believers are also “ministers” (hence “angels”) who are “a flaming fire” in bringing the Word (as messengers, envoys, those who are sent from God).

Hebrews 1:8, “But unto the Son [he saith], Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness [is] the sceptre of thy kingdom.

This verse is referring back to Psalm 45:6, “Thy throne, O God, [is] for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom [is] a right sceptre.

Genesis 49:10, “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him [shall] the gathering of the people [be].”

This verse, like the one just before it, relates back to Psalm 45, as we read in Psalm 45:7, “Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Isaiah 61:1, “¶The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound;

The is taken directly from Psalm 102:25, “Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens [are] the work of thy hands.”

Colossians 1:14, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:¶Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all [things] he might have the preeminence.

Ephesians 1:22, ¶And hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church,Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Psalm 102:26&27, “They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou [art] the same, and thy years shall have no end.”

Isaiah 34:4, “And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling [fig] from the fig tree.”

Isaiah 51:6, “Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

Ezekiel 32:7, “And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light. All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.

Joel 2:31, “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.”

Amos 9:5, “And the Lord GOD of hosts [is] he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned, as [by] the flood of Egypt.

Nahum 1:5, “The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.”

Matthew 24:29, “¶Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

2 Peter 3:10-12, “¶But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. [Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Revelation 6:12-17, “¶And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

This verse is referring directly back to Psalm 110:1, “¶[[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”

We are reminded of this again when Jesus expounded upon it to the scribes in Luke 20:41-44, “¶And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David’s son? And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?” The implication is that the Psalm was talking the Christ (Messiah) being a descendent of David’s would be the One Whom David calls “Lord”, which Is Jesus Himself. But the scribes could not figure that out and provide Jesus with an answer. This is even more clear in Matthew 22:41–46; with additional information in Mark 12:35–37 .

Regarding the angels, Psalm 103:20 tells us, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.” Please see all of Psalm 103.

Regarding being heirs ministered to by angels we read in Romans 8:17, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.
